FASD Training

The rffada has identified a need for Australia-wide training in FASD suitable for multi-tier audiences. Until now there has been no such training available to organisations, individuals and government departments other than that which has been developed internally or when an external presenter has been asked to present on a ‘one-off’ basis. Historically members of the peak body for FASD in Australia, The National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Related Disorders have given their time voluntarily to provide these organisations with training or presentations. This is not sustainable – the volunteers were unable to keep up with demand and the country needed to have access to training which was not based on the availability of these busy volunteers.

This innovative project has been led by the rffada in partnership with an Australia-wide Registered Training Organisation, Training Connections Australia (formerly Enterprise Management Group or EMG). TCA has agreed to partner with the rffada to develop, deliver and evaluate training in 7 modules.

Module 1 the core pre-requisite for all other modules and will take around 3-4 hours depending on the interaction from the audience – (endorsed by the peak body in Australia NOFASARD)
Module 2 has been specifically designed for Health and Allied Health Workers, Centrelink and other Job Capacity Assessors – (from the Telethon Institute’s Alcohol and Pregnancy and FASD – a resource for Health Professionals)
Module 3 is for parents and carers, foster parents, child safety, community and social welfare workers and other frontline workers and carers– (endorsed by the peak body in Australia NOFASARD)
Module 4 teachers and educators
Module 5 is specifically targeted towards Jobs Services Australia providers who deliver the DEEWR employment services contract, Disability Employment Services and Vocational Rehabilitation Services Providers such as CRS Australia workers – (endorsed by Elizabeth Russell author of “Strategies for Employment Services Specialists – with particular emphasis on FASD”)
